The Alliance for Childhood Cancer will host this year's Childhood Cancer Action Days in Washington, DC on April 23-24, 2018. 

Once again, organizational members of the Alliance for Childhood Cancer will host a two-day event that includes new advocate training, issues, and advocacy training, and pre-arranged Capitol Hill visits with Members of Congress and their staff.

The Alliance’s goal is to provide the childhood cancer community – parents, children, healthcare professionals and others – with the opportunity to visit their Members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill to advocate for the important childhood cancer issues currently before Congress.

To register select one Action Days registration ticket then select the additional number of adults or children attending with you. Please include a full home address for each participant. This information will be used for the purpose of scheduling Congressional meetings, and will not be shared with others outside of this purpose.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Training will be held on Monday, April 23 at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center Hotel. A full schedule of training events will be sent out closer to the event date, but here is a brief layout for the day:

9:00 am                  Registration and the Kids Room (ages 4-12) Opens; (Breakfast will be available.)

10:00 -11:30 am      New Advocates Training

12:00-5:00 pm         Issues & Advocacy Training (Please note this training is mandatory for all advocates wanting to meet with their Members of Congress and their staff on the 24th. Lunch will be provided.)

Dinner is NOT provided but the Alliance will provide a list of restaurants in the area for your convenience.

On Tuesday, April 24th all advocates will take to Capitol Hill to visit our Members of Congress and their staff. The Alliance will schedule these meetings for you, and while each advocate’s schedule might be different, you can expect meetings to conclude around 5:00pm EST.

We will also host a kick-off breakfast on April 24th from 7:30-9:00 am before our congressional meetings begin.

 

HOTEL INFORMATION:

The Alliance has a room block ($209/night) at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center Hotel for the nights of Sunday, April 22, Monday, April 23rd and Tuesday, April 24th. You may make reservations by calling 1-800-393-2510 and mentioning “Childhood Cancer Action Days”; or by using the online booking link. Please note that guest room availability for the evening of Tuesday, April 24th is very limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. We recommend you reserve your room early as the room block may reach capacity! 

Reservations must be made by the cutoff date of Friday, March 23rd. 

 

REGISTRATION FEE:

To help keep the Alliance for Childhood Cancer Action Days the great and impactful event that it is, we have a registration fee of $50.00 per family. If you are an individual advocate, the fee is also $50. This fee will include advocacy training and materials, breakfast and lunch on Monday, April 23rd and breakfast on Tuesday, April 24th before we begin our congressional meetings. Your confirmation email will include a PDF of your registration ticket. Please print this ticket and bring it with you to check in.

Scholarship applications are available here. The application deadline is March 10th, however, early submissions are strongly encouraged.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY:

We understand that you may need to cancel your trip after you have registered. Because the Alliance for Childhood Cancer incurs significant costs for late cancellations and no-shows, we ask that you cancel at your earliest convenience or at least 3 business days prior to Monday, April 23rd the date of Action Days training. Requests for registration fee refunds received less than 3 business days before Monday, April 23rd will not be granted, unless accompanied by a physician’s note. If you are unable to cancel your registration within 3 business days of April 23rd, and you believe you qualify for a refund please contact alliance@asco.org and our events team will work with you to determine if you do.
